What is the Samsung Push Service?
This is one of the most frequently asked questions with regards to this application. What is the Samsung push service, and most importantly why do I exactly need it?
To clear all question marks out from your head, it’s basically a central point of announcing to all the Samsung users, the latest hot news of Samsung offerings, updates/upgrades of Samsung applications and devices. It’s pretty much a hub for announcements for all things Samsung.
Not only does it send notification messages of all Samsung products but it also acts as a command or controls messages for certain other applications such as breaking news for the ABC news app or any other crucial updates for other applications, that enhances the functionality of the mobile device.
How it works is, when you receive the “push” notification message from a publisher of a specific Samsung application, it runs a service in the background and downloads or updates specific services that are private to the Samsung solution. For example applications such as; S Calendar, S Voice, S memo, messaging, or any other Samsung only service or app. When an update is received, the Samsung Push Service will take up the news, process it to all users as notifications, text message or send it as an email-based alert on the custom settings defined according to each user.
What’s a push notification?
You might not know by the name, but many of you have seen, used or interacted with push notifications. Push notifications are a form of messages, alerts that are sent from the applications you’ve installed on your device, which is used mostly to alert you on new activity on that specific application even when you have closed off the same – in other words when you have killed the application.
What’s the difference between a push notification and a text message?
The objective of both forms are pretty much the same thing, but Push notifications gets the gold ribbon for being a sleek, interactive and most effective form of communication when it comes to getting information across and prompting certain actions from the user.
Following is a table of quick comparison on the few features between Push notification and Text messaging.
|Push Notification||Text Messages|
|Notifications are sent for applications that are already installed in your phone upon your consent.||Uses your personal contact number, which might feel like intruding your privacy if the messages are sent without your consent.|
|Push notifications allow you to take actions quickly on the notifications itself without actually opening the applications.||Text messages they are able to provide a hyperlink to a certain website or an application, which forces the user to navigate from the current screen and actually do the action on the application itself.|
|Push notifications are completely free for the users||There are certain instances that text messages are not sent freely|
|Once the application is uninstalled, push notifications will not be sent to your device||Even though the application is removed, sometimes you may receive text message alerts since it directly linked to your personal contact number|
|Since push notifications are linked to the downloaded app, when sending out a message it does not have a user limitation and therefore can be sent for all users who have installed the app. Ideal for marketers to promote newer features for a far less cost.||Since messaging is directly linked with the mobile number it is when sending out mass text messages there is a cost involved.|
|You are able to customise the positioning, the alert types as per your preference – provided the specific applications have implemented such convenience.||There aren’t any customisation. You are pretty much exposed to it all the time.|
